I have decided that the reason I don't blog as much as I would like is only partially because I am busy and mostly because I am a perfectionist which leads me to be a procrastinator. It's the sad truth and I love that I am a perfectionist when I produce an amazing product or whatever that just makes me proud but I hate that it makes me procrastinate starting things because I'm too worried it won't be just how I want it to be. That being said it's a working progress and here's a little update for ya.
What have I been up to? sewing sewing and more sewing.
It's my new favorite hobby...and I have to sew for three of my classes. But really truly I am loving it, why else would I sign up for THREE sewing classes in one semester?? Everyone at school that I tell that to thinks I'm crazy because sewing classes are a lot of work. Last semester I took my first sewing class here at school it was beginning clothing construction and I LOVED it. The school has the greatest machines ever that I just want to bring home with me. It started out really slow with just a simple pillow case and pajama pants. After that I made a button up collared shirt, it was hard and I'm pretty proud that I did it and it turned out cute. I'd put a picture up but it's packed away with my clothes that don't fit me right now. Our last project was a skirt and it was easier that the shirt but still a learning experience.
Okay so this semester I am taking the advanced clothing construction class, Home Decor Sewing, and Children's clothing Construction. How fun is that?! Home decor and Children's Clothing are pretty slow moving pace since they are beginning sewing classes but still I get to make fun things. We finished out first two sewing projects in Children's Clothing. A hat and booties, so cute!
I just love how tiny everything we make in this class is :)
In home decor we haven't started our first project yet because we've just been learning things about the machines and such. I am proud to say that I threaded a serger by myself, a real one with tension and everything (no baby lock automatic threading sergers in this lab). Maybe I can help my mom figure out hers. Anyways, our first project will be a "linen" project. This class is fun because we just have to make a certain type of project but not necessarily the same thing. So I'm trying to decide between a few things: burp clothes, table runner, or sewing machine cover. What do you think I should make?
Okay one more class, sorry if this bores you. Advanced Clothing Construction, I have the same teacher that I had last semester for beginning and I love her. She is an AWESOME teacher nothing against the other sewing teachers I just really like how she does things. This class is a lot faster pace and it's a 2 hour 15 minute class but the time still seems to disappear. Our first project we are pretty far along, we're making a men's button up collared PLAID shirt. I emphasise the plaid because that's what really makes it hard, lining up the plaid has been quite the adventure. But I do love that I am making a plaid shirt, how cool is that!? It's for Joey and I hope it turns out good enough that he will actually wear it. When it's done I will show it off so stay tuned for pictures.
Thought you were done with all this sewing talk? Sorry. This isn't for a class but I just wanted to make a cute crib sheet for our coming little baby girl. It was a very quick project but I love how it turned out.
It just looks plain green but it actually has little tiny white polka dots on it. It's really cute fabric.
You can't even tell it's home made can you? If you want to make one yourself I used this tutorial from one of my favorite blogs. Also one of my new favorite hobbies, "nesting" as they call it. Baby stuff is just so fun! I am also planning on making a cute crib skirt and possibly bumper pads, and then for my home decor class I'm going to make a baby quilt. Can't wait!
When I was in Spokane over the break I also finished two poodle skirts for my sister in law and her daughter for a sock hop, and a cute cars blanket for my nephew... but I didn't take any pictures sadly.
Okay I'm done I swear. No more sewing talk for today. Although that's pretty much my life right now so it will probably come up again so I can show off everything I make! Thanks for letting me tell you all about my new found hobby of sewing. You should try it, it's really fun :)
