One week

Today Brinlee is officially one week old. I survived.
These last two nights have been her best by far so there is hope for us getting sleep at night.

And because there is no such thing as too many pictures of this little cutie...here is an update of her last this past week.

We finally got a picture of her with her eyes open!

And to show off her "tiny and cute" outfit that Nana got her

So precious!

We had to get a picture of her bear bum!

My mom made a cute little fabric book of the three little pigs and Joey was reading it to her while she slept, it was SO cute!

Daddy was making her a "gangsta"

Poor Daddy :)

----------Family Photos----------

We had our first family photos taken

How cute is that little yawn!?

The Birth Story

Right now it seems like just yesterday, but I know I will forget if I don't record it.

Last Saturday Joey's parents came through for one night because they were one there way back from a road trip.  We joked that maybe our little girl would come right after they left because last time they came to visit I went into pre-term labor.  Well sure enough after staying up until 1:30 in the morning playing games with them I woke up at about 3:00am with some really painful contractions. At first I wasn't sure just how bad they were because I was just waking up. But after I had another couple I knew we had to go. Joey asked me if I wanted him to wake up his mom and ask if it was real labor or not, right about then another one started and I was just said NO we need to go now!

We did wake up his parents and let them know and then headed to the hospital which is like 3 minutes away at this time of night.  Once we got there I was in the exam room just long enough for them to check and see how far dilated I was and then put right into a labor and delivery room.  In the exam room they said I was 6cm and after about 15 minutes they checked me again and said I was between 8 and 9cm.  All the nurses kept telling me how fast I was progressing and how it might be some sort of record for first time baby.

At 9cm The epidural was being given and the anesthesiologist was having a tough time getting it. I was sitting there in a lot of pain while they told me to keep really still through my contractions and to have my back a certain way for them and to tell me which side I am feeling the strange pains and oh yeah I was about to throw up too. That was by far the most miserable part.  They finally got it in right before I threw up. I was VERY grateful because I was so far along I was afraid I was going to have to do it without an epidural.

I pushed for about four contractions before the nurses were switching shifts and they seemed to forget about me because the next nurse took a very long time to come in. Then when she did come in they said I should sleep for about an hour before we tried pushing again. So I did, considering I only slept for an hour and a half before coming in. When they came back they said that the baby wasn't liking labor anymore and they needed to get her out faster (of course she wasn't liking it anymore you left me at 10cm for hours!) anyways...so they used a vacuum on her little head and she came out very easily.

After I was moved to the mother baby unit we called his parents to come see their newest grandchild and they were thrilled! How nice it was of them to stop by and put me into labor again :)

The hospital stay was rough for me, I only slept about two hours the whole time I was there and it was not in a row. So I was glad/overwhelmed to be going home. Good thing my mom came into town the next day, thanks mom!

Bed Rest

Just one more week from today I am officially released from bed rest!
I have been spending the last two and a half weeks in one of two places...

Here in our disaster of a bed
(Joey was so sweet to set up our desk with our computer right next to the bed for me)

Or here in our less disaster of a couch

I has actually been pretty easy to keep myself occupied. My good friends Natalie brought me over some good books to read. There are plenty of movies to watch. And the extra sleep has been quite nice.  And I have even had homework that I have been working on. One of my FAVORITE things that has happened since bed rest is one of my best friends from high school came to visit me for three days!

Who you ask? Jeanelle Hollenbaugh! She is such a good friend to drive 7 hours here and 7 hours back just to lay around my apartment with me and keep me company. And she brought me presents!

Some of my favorite things! And of course we used the coloring books while she was here. She also brought down her movies and we watched some really good ones that I had never seen before. So thank you VERY much Jeanelle! I did miss her the very next day when I had no one to be with me the whole day :(

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay I think most people who read my blog already know the story of what happened, but there may be some one out there that doesn't know, and besides it's good for the records.

On Monday June 27th (yes the very same Monday that Joey's parents left to go back home) I decided that the persistent back pain that had been going on since the previous Thursday was no longer okay with me.  I figured I would just go in and they would tell me some solution I could do whether it be drugs or whatever I just couldn't take it anymore. So I went in without an appointment and told them it wasn't an emergency or anything that I just needed to ask the Doctor a question.

Well I was called back pretty quick and explained the back pain to my doctor. He was very calm about it and told me that he just needed to check and see if it was preterm labor or not, and if it wasn't that it would be a pretty easy fix. So he left the room and Joey and I were talking about how we really didn't think it was preterm labor because I would probably notice and I hadn't had consistent contractions or anything. So we are just sitting there patiently waiting for our "easy fix" so we can leave and go to classes.

We were wrong. The doctor came in checked me and told me that I was dilated to 1.5 centimeters and need to hook me up to the monitor to see if I was having contractions. Okay now Joey and I are staring at each other wide eyed thinking WHAT?! So they hook me up to the monitor and sure enough I am having consistent contractions. Now our hearts are racing as the doctor explains that we need to go up to the hospital so they can give me things to stop the labor hopefully for 24hrs. Now I am waaaay freaked out because I didn't realize that he was saying if all else fails hopefully stop it for 24hrs, I just heard the 24hrs part and could not stop thinking, I'm not ready, She's not ready! (I was 31weeks 5days)

So we are driving to the hospital (which is just down the street) and Joey's freaking out saying that he did not come ready for this today, and I'm thinking the same thing. At this point I am VERY glad I asked him to come with me because at first I was just going to go alone. We both called our parents and told them what was going on and then we were there.

They gave me an IV with drugs to stop the labor, then they game me a shot of another drug to stop the labor, then a oral pill to stop the labor, and a shot of steroids for the babies lungs. Well after being in the hospital on monitors for 10 hours I was sent home. The drugs worked and my labor stopped pretty easy.

We were both EXTREMELY grateful that she didn't come that early.  Although it did put me on bed rest in the middle of the semester.  But my teachers were very sympathetic and worked with me on what I could do for my classes. I am thankful that I go to BYU-I where half the married women are pregnant so the teachers are used to things like this.

I also thought that I was going to have to be on bed rest until August 3rd but was pleased to hear that I am able to be off two weeks earlier! And first on my agenda, Going to the last Harry Potter movie with our friends Natalie and RJ! (I'm so glad they were willing to wait the extra 5 days after it comes out)

Sorry that was such a long blog, hope you didn't get too bored. I'll let you know when our silly baby makes it here for real, which could be any day from today to August really. crazy.

Fun Filled Weekend

I'm a little behind, so not the weekend that just happened but the one just before that. That's not that long ago so I'm pretty proud that I'm getting to it this fast.

Anyways, we had two exciting things going on around here! My in-laws, or Joey's parents, came to Rexburg for a little visit, AND my good friends Natalie threw me a baby shower! Lucky for me my mother-in-law is pretty darn good at taking pictures because I am still lacking it that area. So I actually have pictures of all the fun.

We were able to go to the temple with his parents since they had never been to the Rexburg one

We got a few pictures taken...and proof that Joey can still lift me even with my huge belly.

 -------------------------------------------------------------------------
The baby shower

That is my good friend Natalie that threw me the fun baby shower

Right before they were kicked out. No boys allowed of course!

We played fun trivia games

And they tried to guess the size of my belly...

Some were closer than others...a perfect match!

Of course there was a lot of this...

Quick story.
How cute is this hug me onesie?? So I opened it and loved it, then when I was opening another one of my friends presents she said, just to let you know there's a repeat in there. So I got two hug me onsies. Then when I pulled out the second another friend of mine said well I might as well tell you know you're gonna have a third one! We are all cracking up by this point. But hey they were all in different sizes so i won't have to worry about her growing out of such a cute onesie.
Here is the whole gang

And of course I had to show off my recently finished blessing dress for my baby girl! A little sneak peak for you, I'll post with good close up pictures later when I get it back from being graded.

And besides I have some other recently finished projects I need to show off! I know you're just dying to see them ;)

What have we been up to??

Me: sewing of course!

I do have a pretty good excuse...it's for my classes. My kind of homework. Although when you happen to have a couple of projects due the next day and you are in the sewing lab for 9 hours straight it can get a little annoying.  Not that I had to do that Wednesday.  But luckily I had my friend Natalie there with me to entertain. She also has the same three sewing classes as me this semester so we try and keep each other sane.

Anyways I have completed some more projects...

A little onesie!  This is one of my favorite from children's sewing
it might have something to do with the adorable fabric that I got
at Joannes for 50% off.

Here is a close up so you can see just how adorable this knit is!

And of course I got enough to make a few things. This little PJ set is actually a 2t so it'll be a while before our little girl will wear it but that's okay.

And by far the hardest project I have made yet...a plaid men's shirt for Joey. Yes PLAID is the key word there. It was quite the challenge getting all my plaid lines to match up. But I was successful and am very proud of how well it turned out.

And doesn't it look good on Joey?

I'd say he's pretty happy with the results

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Joey: Studying

This semester Joey has some pretty hard classes. He's taking three different psychology classes, a sociology, and a stats class. He has a lot of reading that goes along with those and has been doing really good at keeping up.

But what I am most proud of is how well he is doing on his tests, and there has been quite a few.  He's been working really hard and got A's and B's on these really tough tests!! I'm so proud of my hard working Hubby this semester.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Baby: Kicking

In case any one wants  a quick note about our little girl.  She has been very active lately which is very cute. And she stopped hiding from daddy (she used to stop kicking right when Joey would try and feel, it was pretty funny). We can't wait to meet her!

Sew Sew Sew and Sew some more

I have decided that the reason I don't blog as much as I would like is only partially because I am busy and mostly because I am a perfectionist which leads me to be a procrastinator.  It's the sad truth and I love that I am a perfectionist when I produce an amazing product or whatever that just makes me proud but I hate that it makes me procrastinate starting things because I'm too worried it won't be just how I want it to be. That being said it's a working progress and here's a little update for ya.

What have I been up to? sewing sewing and more sewing.

It's my new favorite hobby...and I have to sew for three of my classes. But really truly I am loving it, why else would I sign up for THREE sewing classes in one semester?? Everyone at school that I tell that to thinks I'm crazy because sewing classes are a lot of work. Last semester I took my first sewing class here at school it was beginning clothing construction and I LOVED it. The school has the greatest machines ever that I just want to bring home with me. It started out really slow with just a simple pillow case and pajama pants. After that I made a button up collared shirt, it was hard and I'm pretty proud that I did it and it turned out cute. I'd put a picture up but it's packed away with my clothes that don't fit me right now. Our last project was a skirt and it was easier that the shirt but still a learning experience.

Okay so this semester I am taking the advanced clothing construction class, Home Decor Sewing, and Children's clothing Construction. How fun is that?! Home decor and Children's Clothing are pretty slow moving pace since they are beginning sewing classes but still I get to make fun things. We finished out first two sewing projects in Children's Clothing. A hat and booties, so cute!

I just love how tiny everything we make in this class is :)

In home decor we haven't started our first project yet because we've just been learning things about the machines and such. I am proud to say that I threaded a serger by myself, a real one with tension and everything (no baby lock automatic threading sergers in this lab). Maybe I can help my mom figure out hers. Anyways, our first project will be a "linen" project. This class is fun because we just have to make a certain type of project but not necessarily the same thing. So I'm trying to decide between a few things: burp clothes, table runner, or sewing machine cover. What do you think I should make?

Okay one more class, sorry if this bores you. Advanced Clothing Construction, I have the same teacher that I had last semester for beginning and I love her. She is an AWESOME teacher nothing against the other sewing teachers I just really like how she does things. This class is a lot faster pace and it's a 2 hour 15 minute class but the time still seems to disappear. Our first project we are pretty far along, we're making a men's button up collared PLAID shirt. I emphasise the plaid because that's what really makes it hard, lining up the plaid has been quite the adventure. But I do love that I am making a plaid shirt, how cool is that!? It's for Joey and I hope it turns out good enough that he will actually wear it. When it's done I will show it off so stay tuned for pictures.

Thought you were done with all this sewing talk? Sorry. This isn't for a class but I just wanted to make a cute crib sheet for our coming little baby girl. It was a very quick project but I love how it turned out.

It just looks plain green but it actually has little tiny white polka dots on it. It's really cute fabric.

You can't even tell it's home made can you? If you want to make one yourself I used this tutorial from one of my favorite blogs. Also one of my new favorite hobbies, "nesting" as they call it. Baby stuff is just so fun! I am also planning on making a cute crib skirt and possibly bumper pads, and then for my home decor class I'm going to make a baby quilt. Can't wait!

When I was in Spokane over the break I also finished two poodle skirts for my sister in law and her daughter for a sock hop, and a cute cars blanket for my nephew... but I didn't take any pictures sadly.

Okay I'm done I swear. No more sewing talk for today. Although that's pretty much my life right now so it will probably come up again so I can show off everything I make! Thanks for letting me tell you all about my new found hobby of sewing. You should try it, it's really fun :)
