The Birth Story

Right now it seems like just yesterday, but I know I will forget if I don't record it.

Last Saturday Joey's parents came through for one night because they were one there way back from a road trip.  We joked that maybe our little girl would come right after they left because last time they came to visit I went into pre-term labor.  Well sure enough after staying up until 1:30 in the morning playing games with them I woke up at about 3:00am with some really painful contractions. At first I wasn't sure just how bad they were because I was just waking up. But after I had another couple I knew we had to go. Joey asked me if I wanted him to wake up his mom and ask if it was real labor or not, right about then another one started and I was just said NO we need to go now!

We did wake up his parents and let them know and then headed to the hospital which is like 3 minutes away at this time of night.  Once we got there I was in the exam room just long enough for them to check and see how far dilated I was and then put right into a labor and delivery room.  In the exam room they said I was 6cm and after about 15 minutes they checked me again and said I was between 8 and 9cm.  All the nurses kept telling me how fast I was progressing and how it might be some sort of record for first time baby.

At 9cm The epidural was being given and the anesthesiologist was having a tough time getting it. I was sitting there in a lot of pain while they told me to keep really still through my contractions and to have my back a certain way for them and to tell me which side I am feeling the strange pains and oh yeah I was about to throw up too. That was by far the most miserable part.  They finally got it in right before I threw up. I was VERY grateful because I was so far along I was afraid I was going to have to do it without an epidural.

I pushed for about four contractions before the nurses were switching shifts and they seemed to forget about me because the next nurse took a very long time to come in. Then when she did come in they said I should sleep for about an hour before we tried pushing again. So I did, considering I only slept for an hour and a half before coming in. When they came back they said that the baby wasn't liking labor anymore and they needed to get her out faster (of course she wasn't liking it anymore you left me at 10cm for hours!) anyways...so they used a vacuum on her little head and she came out very easily.

After I was moved to the mother baby unit we called his parents to come see their newest grandchild and they were thrilled! How nice it was of them to stop by and put me into labor again :)

The hospital stay was rough for me, I only slept about two hours the whole time I was there and it was not in a row. So I was glad/overwhelmed to be going home. Good thing my mom came into town the next day, thanks mom!
